Stewart and Carol Sampson on their recent visit to England

Stewart, ably assisted by his wife Carol, is Pastor of a small, multi-cultural Assembly of God church in the suburbs of Cape Town, South Africa, with a present membership of 30-35, of which 13 / 14 live in the Ottery area. The unemployment rate in the area stems mostly from the informal settlement and surrounding areas.

Our church does not have any premises of their own and are meeting at a local school using one of their pre-fab classrooms. As a reflection of our vision and calling, the ministry is called "A Ministry to The Broken". We are working in together with seven like-minded churches in an informal settlement known as "Freedom Park Squatter Camp", providing soup meals, and if possible, other essential needs. Representation from our side to local government agencies has seen the provision of electricity being installed in the Squatter camp. This informal settlement poses a serious health threat; HIV and AIDS are rife, large numbers have died of Tuberculosis (TB), which we know for certain is AIDS related. Through God's grace, health awareness is being spread, and the Department of Health is at last doing something about it.

While the area where the church is situated is not one of the worst run down areas of the city, it still has many needs as a result of poverty, family breakdowns, drugs and alcohol abuse, etc. As a result, our Assembly, and the ministry rely on the Lord for their needs, which is always provided at the time of the need through help, financially and other ways, from Christians aware of the work.
